In Sierra Leone, CrossBoundary Energy's solar PV, battery, and generator hybrid systems are energizing the first rollout of 5G towers for Zoodlabs Group, delivering 99.9% uptime while reducing fossil fuel dependence.

Zoodlabs, a telecommunications company based in Sierra Leone, announced the launch of the country’s first 5G data network during the Digital Government Summit in June 2025. The initial phase of the project is being powered by renewable energy systems that use solar PV, battery, and generators to ensure 99.9% uptime while significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. In addition to supplying the energy infrastructure, CrossBoundary Energy is also financing five of the towers to accelerate deployment.

The 5G data rollout is expected to deliver faster data speeds, lower latency, and enhanced device connectivity, contributing to economic development and digital inclusion in Sierra Leone, where broadband penetration currently stands at just 20.7%. The network will eliminate the need for traditional cable infrastructure, offering a leap forward in connectivity for both individuals and businesses.

5G is a foundational technology that supports innovations such as smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and remote healthcare. The first towers are already operational in Freetown, with plans to expand coverage across the country.
