In weak-grid markets across Africa, telcos spend up to 40% of operating costs on energy, relying on mostly on diesel.
In Freetown, Sierra Leone, CrossBoundary Energy introduced hybrid energy systems for the rollout of the country’s first 5G towers. The locally built project achieved 100% uptime, cut diesel use and generator runtime by 70%, and saves an estimated 330 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually.
